I've been obsessed with goalkeeping since my early teens — the moment I watched Peter Schmeichel throwing himself around in goal, I was hooked. That obsession never left.

Over the past 30 years I've played and coached at every level from Sunday league to Step 3 of the national football pyramid, including spells at Cleator Moor Celtic, Whitehaven AFC and Workington AFC. I currently work as first team goalkeeper coach at Workington AFC in the NPL — a role I love, working with keepers who push me to improve every single week.

But throughout all of that, one thing always stood out: goalkeepers are an afterthought. At most clubs there simply isn't the staff, the time, or the specialist knowledge to give keepers what they actually need. I never had a dedicated GK coach throughout my entire playing career. Most keepers still don't.

That's why I set this up.

West Cumbria Goalkeeping exists to give keepers of all ages something they rarely get — a coach entirely dedicated to them. Not just working on the technical side, but genuinely educating keepers on the nuances of the position. The decision-making, the communication, the understanding of the game that turns a good keeper into a great one.

I hold the FA National Goalkeeping Qualification, UEFA B Licence, and FA Advanced Youth Award, have an up to date DBS, and have been coaching football for 19 years.
